Igniting Hope, One Child at a Time
In early 2022, two physicians, devoted to healing bodies and uplifting communities, extended their compassion beyond the hospital walls. They saw what many overlook - that underserved youth may appear healthy on the outside, but carry invisible scars that medicine alone cannot heal. These young souls wrestle daily with hardships too complex for ‘you’ll understand when you’re older’ to ever make sense.
Orphaned and abandoned children bear emotional burdens most adults cannot fathom - wounds from abuse, neglect, and violence that leave their mark long after the moment has passed. Research confirms what we already feel in our hearts: these children face a higher risk of emotional and behavioral disorders. Left unaddressed, these invisible ailments dim their future before it even begins.
That's why the Junaid and Wassia Family Foundation (JWFF) launched The Compass Project - to guide, understand, and restore. Fueled by private donors and relentless empathy, JWFF began providing psychological evaluations for your in or at risk of entering foster care, helping caregivers, social workers, and guardians understand not just the behavior, but the pain beneath it.
In Jacksonville, Florida, The Compass Project has already served 23 children across four foster homes. Of the 15 who received psychological evaluations, the findings were striking:

60% suffer from Major Depressive Disorder

And several were found at risk of abuse, sexual, physical and emotional.
Guided by powerful new insights, fostering administrators are shifting budget priorities to invest in what matters most - personalized mental health counseling tailored to each child’s unique journey. But the vision doesn’t stop there. JWFF is expanding its reach beyond clinical care, with plans to launch academic tutoring, support for student-athletes, and mentorship programs led by military veterans.
