Academic Tutoring Program
For foster youth, gaps in education are rarely the result of a lack of ability. They are the result of disruption. Every school transfer, every placement change, every missed year creates a gap that compounds over time. Educate to Empower exists to close those gaps, one student at a time.
Through our partnership with TutorBright, we connect youth in residential care with qualified tutors who meet them exactly where they are. No judgment about where they should be. Just a plan, a tutor, and consistent support.
What the data shows
Our active tutoring cohort includes students ranging from middle school age through GED preparation, spanning grades 8 through 12 equivalency. Here is what their journeys look like:

Students are typically performing 2 to 6 grade levels below enrollment level when they enter the program, not due to low intelligence but due to educational disruption.

Within weeks of consistent tutoring, the majority show measurable improvement in both academic performance and engagement.

One student transitioned from failing algebra (8%) to significantly improved standing after being placed in a structured virtual learning sequence with tutor support.

Another student entered at an estimated elementary math level and is now working at a middle school level, covering foundational algebra and basic geometry.

GED-track students receive ground-up math instruction starting from their actual assessed level, not their enrolled grade level.

Where learning disabilities or developmental factors are identified, tutors coordinate with caregivers to pursue assessments rather than pushing forward without the right support in place.
What makes this program different?
Many tutoring programs match a student with a tutor and hand them a textbook. Educate to Empower is built around the reality of foster care. Our tutors understand that a student who is disengaged is not lazy; they are protecting themselves. A student who cannot stay focused in a group setting is not a problem; they are a child who has rarely been given a stable environment in which to learn.
We assess from the ground up. We build plans that meet students where they actually are. And we stay with them as things shift, including when school placements change, virtual platforms adjust, or a student needs something other than academic support first.
